[IMP-dev] doc tweaks

While trying to figure out a few things I made some minor tweaks to  
documentation of various methods.
I also made it so the assert macros require a semicolon after them to  
make them more function-like.
Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any good way of making python  
examples show up in doxygen.
